Thermoforming clear PVC sheet is a rigid thermoplastic material that softens when heated, is shaped against a mold by vacuum, pressure or mechanical assistance, and retains the formed geometry after controlled cooling. Successful forming depends on more than the nominal sheet thickness. Formulation, molecular orientation, gauge tolerance, heating uniformity, mold temperature, draw ratio, plug-assist design, cooling and trimming all affect wall distribution and finished-part quality.
Clear PVC provides transparent presentation for packaged products. Haze, tint, surface gloss, flow lines and contamination should be approved against a physical sample because “clear” can represent different optical standards across retail, industrial and pharmaceutical applications.
Controlled gauge helps maintain consistent heating and material draw. Deep cavities, sharp corners and high draw ratios can create local thinning, so the starting thickness must be selected using the finished part geometry and minimum-wall requirement.
Stable sheet orientation and heating reduce uncontrolled shrinkage, web distortion and registration problems. Roll-fed packaging lines may also require consistent width, edge quality and winding tension.
Impact performance depends on PVC formulation, temperature, thickness and formed geometry. Where cold-temperature handling, drop resistance or high-impact protection is required, the grade and finished part should be tested under the actual use conditions.
